Douglas "Butch" Burnett

Douglas C. "Butch" Burnett, Jr., went home on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, after an 8 year battle with Mesothelioma. Born on September 7, 1946, he was the son of Douglas C. Burnett Sr. and Mildred A. (Durda) Burnett. He acknowledged God as the giver of his two passions—family and farm. He approached every day with enviable enthusiasm and had the utmost respect for all living things. Doug always had a strong opinion and was very willing to share it, whether you wanted to hear it or not! His work ethic was strong and constant throughout his life, approaching everything with honesty, sincerity, and hard work. He valued nature and the importance of preserving it and could turn a walk in the woods into an exciting adventure. He enjoyed his annual trip to Aruba. He loved this time of refreshment, especially if family or friends joined him. He used any occasion for a family gathering. Christmas was his favorite time of year. He was always eager to share whatever he could with anyone. He belonged to the Berkshire Shrine Club, the Melha Shriners, and the Pittsfield Lodge of Masons. He previously sat on the FHA board, and was a present member of the Adams Conservation Committee, and Massachusetts Farm Bureau. The farm, in his family since 1911, was a source of great pride. He considered it his life's work to preserve it, and also to expand upon it and use it in the most judicious way. This pride was second only to the pride he had in his children and grandchildren. Doug leaves the love of his life, Jane Marcil Burnett, whom he married on September 2, 1967; a daughter , Carrie Garivaltis , a son, Jason Burnett and his wife Carolyn, and a daughter, Kimberly Miller and her husband Dwayne. He leaves six grandchildren, Megan and Zachary Bantle, Isabella Garivaltis, Vincent Burnett, Brandon and Jonathan Miller; and seven step grandchildren. He leaves his sister Doris Alibozek, her husband David, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves his feline friends—Nemo, Max, and Miss Priss. The funeral will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2nd, at 10:00 AM in the First Baptist Church, 15 Commercial St. (Rte. 8) Adams. Rev. Donald E. Gray will officiate. Burial will be private. Calling hours at the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, will be Friday (today) from 4 to 7 PM.
