Mr. Wladyslaw "Walter" Popowicz, 91, of 36 Lorraine Drive, North Adams, died Monday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital. He was born in Poland on August 20, 1914, son of the late Stanislaw and Anna (Bucul) Popowicz. He attended schools in Poland, and came to the United States in 1965, settling in New Jersey. He came to North Adams 20 years ago. Mr. Popowicz last worked as a baker for Tip-Top Bakery in Newark, New Jersey, until retiring 25 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams. He is survived by his wife, the former Adela Plaskota, whom he married on October 15, 1985; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews. The funeral will be held on Friday, October 7th, at 9:00 AM from the AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams, celebrated by Rev. William F. Cyr, Pastor of the Catholic Parishes of North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Francis Church through the funeral home.
