Thomas Slater

Thomas Edward Slater, 53, of 7 Fourth Avenue, Cheshire, died early Sunday morning at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. He was born in North Adams on November 13, 1951, a son of Thomas R. Slater and the late Margaret A. (Russell) Slater. He attended North Adams schools, and graduated from Drury High School in 1970. Following graduation, he served briefly with the US Air Force. Mr. Slater worked as a route salesman and supervisor at Adams Laundry and Dry Cleaning Co. in Adams for 30 years, until retiring due to ill health in February of 2005. He also worked as bartender for many years at Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 Veterans of Foreign Wars in North Adams, and the Sahara in Adams. He was a member of Adams Post 160 American Legion and the Polish National Alliance in Adams. He was a coach for the North Adams Little League and Northern Berkshire Youth Hockey for several years. He was a billiards enthusiast, and was a member of a league that had qualified at the state level, and then in national competition in St. Louis. He also enjoyed gardening, grilling and bird watching. Besides his father, of North Adams, he is survived by his wife, the former Therese M. LaRoche, whom he married on August 24, 1991; 2 Sons - Robert T. Slater of Adams, and Thomas J. Slater of Cheshire; 1 Daughter - Michelle L. Slater of North Adams; 1 Grandson - Joshua Sorel of North Adams; 2 Brothers - James Slater and Mark Slater, both of North Adams; 1 Aunt - Joan Murray of Bloomfield, Connecticut; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 31, at 5:30 PM in the AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St. Adams. Burial will be held on Saturday, Sept.3 at a time to be announced in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4:30 PM until the service. Memorial donations may be made to Cheshire Little League or to Cheshire Cub Scout Pack 31 through the funeral home.
