Joseph Edward Sadlowski, 87, of 9 Simon Ave. Adams, a longtime Adams businessman and town official, died Thursday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital. He was born in New Britain, Connecticut on June 23, 1917, a son of the late Teofil and Teofila (Pavzych) Sadlowski. He moved to Pittsfield as a child with his family, and attended schools there. He had lived in Adams since 1946. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War II. He had served aboard the USS Albemarle and the aircraft carrier USS Bataan in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, working as an aircraft mechanic.He was honorably discharged in 1946. Mr. Sadlowski owned and operated Sadlowski's Tree Service in Adams for 35 years, until retiring in 1985. He was currently a Town Meeting Member since1961. He served as Insect and Pest Control superintendent from 1975 until 1988, and was Tree Warden from 1961 until 1986. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams. He was a member of Adams Post 160 American Legion, and was a member of Adams Lodge 1335 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Emily A. Szukala, whom he married on June 29, 1946; 2 Sons - James Sadlowski and his wife, Michele, of Adams, and Gary Sadlowski and his wife, Denise, of Adams; 4 Grandchildren - Michelle Sadlowski of Pittsfield, and Scott, Corinne and Evan Sadlowski, all of Adams; 4 Brothers - Henry Sadlowski of Adams; Walter Sadlowski of Greenfield, Louis Sadlowski of Pittsfield, and John Sadlowski of Live Oak, Florida; 4 Sisters - Ann Zaccari, Rose Bramer, Helen Gonska and Alice Peach, all of Pittsfield; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews. He was predeceased by 4 Sisters - Mary Bukowski, Phyllis Dykes, Gladys Masefield and Alexandra Sadlowski. The funeral will be held on Saturday, June 25th, at 1:00 PM from the AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 2:00 PM in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams, celebrated by Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, Pastor of the Catholic Parishes of Adams. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association through the funeral home.
