John F. Moderski

October 9, 1957 - December 10, 2005

John Francis Moderski, 48, of 5 Richmond St. Adams, died Saturday afternoon at North Adams Regional Hospital, shortly after being admitted. He was born in Adams on October 9, 1957, a son of Irene (Moreau) Moderski and the late John W. Moderski. He attended Adams schools, including the former Notre Dame School, and graduated from Hoosac Valley High School in 1975. Mr. Moderski was owner of Moderski Realty, which he established in 1984, and owned, rehabilitated and maintained several rental properties in Adams since that time. He had also operated the former John's News and Variety on Summer St. from 1988 until 1989. He worked for Sears & Co. at their Berkshire Mall location in Lanesboro, working first in asset protection, and later as a sales associate, from 1998 until 2002. Earlier, he worked at Williams College for 13 years, first as supervisor of night operations in the Center for Computing, and, later as a technical services assistant for library acquisitions. He had worked as a computer operator at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston and at the former F. Schumacher & Co. Waverly division in Adams, in the 1980's. He had worked as a patrolman with the Adams Police Dept. for 2 years, and was also a weekend 911 dispatcher there for several years. He also worked for First Security Co. in Boston in the 1980's. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams. He was a member of Adams Outdoorsmen for Youth and the Forest Park Country Club, Adams. In his earlier years, he enjoyed golfing, skiing, biking, canoeing, and playing baseball. He also enjoyed cooking and dancing. He is survived wife, the former Sandra Hajdas, with whom he celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary on May 25th; His mother, Irene (Moreau) Moderski of Adams; 1 Brother - Moreau R. Moderski and his wife, Linda, of Katy, Texas; His mother -in-law - Doris (Hadala) Hajdas of Adams; A sister-in-law - Susan H. Sikorski and her husband, John, of Lawrenceville, New Jersey; 4 Nephews - Mark, Kevin and Keith Moderski and Christopher Sikorski; 1 grandniece and 1 grandnephew. The funeral will be held on Thursday, December 15th, at 9:00 AM from the AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, celebrated by Rev. James F. McAndrews SJ. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at the funeral home. Flowers may be sent, or memorial donations may be made to the Greylock Animal Hospital Stray Animal Fund or the Adams Outdoorsmen for Youth, through the funeral home.
