Joan Hyndman Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mrs. Joan Francis ( Horn ) Hyndman, 74, of 281 West Road, Adams, died early Thursday, October 21, 2004, at Craneville Place in Dalton, with her family at her side. Death followed a long , courageous battle with diabetes. She was born in Adams on June 6, 1930, a daughter of the late Joseph and Viola (Taft) Horn. She attended Adams schools and graduated from the former Adams High School with the Class of 1948. She attended Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield to complete class work in computer technology. Mrs. Hyndman had founded and operated her own business, The Candle Shop, with her sister, Beverly, for several years. She also worked at Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams for several years,and later at the former K-Mart in North Adams as manager of the ladies wear department, until retiring in 1994. She had received numerous awards at K-Mart for her management skills. She enjoyed photography, candle making, arts & crafts, traveling and taking walks at the Greylock Glen . She is survived by her husband, David C. "Mickey" Hyndman, whom she married on May 7, 1955; 2 Daughters - Suzan Hyndamn of Adams, and Stella Hyndman, and her companion, James Fredette, of Adams; 3 Grandchildren - Danyelle, David and Dominique Hyndman, of Adams; 2 brothers - Harry Horn and his wife, Margie, and Thomas Horn, all of Adams; 1 Sister - Beverly Reagan of North Carolina; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews. Her brother, Charles Horn, died in 1992, and her sister, Bertha Horn, died in 1986. She was also predeceased by her sister-in-law, Betty Horn. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 27, at 11:00 AM in the Auge`-Paciorek-Simmons Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St. Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association through the funeral home.
