Mrs. Helen Frances (Kurpaska) Mazzoli, R.N., 77, of 34 First St. Adams, died Saturday morning at her home. She was born in Adams on August 6, 1927, a daughter of the late Peter and Helen (Szpila) Kurpaska, and graduated from St. Stanislaus Elementary School, and the former Adams High School in 1945. She graduated from the Holyoke Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1948. Mrs. Mazzoli worked at North Adams Regional Hospital for 29 years, until retiring in 1990. Earlier, she had worked at the former W.B. Plunkett Memorial Hospital in Adams, and also worked briefly at hospitals in Connecticut, California and Nevada. She was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams. She was a member of the Massachusetts Nurse's Association; the American Nurses Association, the Massachusetts P.A.N., and helped organize the North Adams Retired Nurses Association. She enjoyed walking, playing cards, strawberry picking, high school sports, and vacationing at Misquamicut, Rhode Island. She is survived by 2 Daughters - Donna Czubryt of Adams; and Cynthia Wittig and her husband, Richard, of Lisle, New York; 1 Brother - Anthony Kurpaska of Cheshire, MA; 1 Sister - Eugenia Zaiken of Springfield, MA; 4 Grandchildren - Keith Czubryt and Carly Czubryt, both of Adams; and Kristen Wittig and Kurt Wittig, both of Lisle, New York, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews. She was predeceased by 4 brothers - Stanley P. Kurpaska, Casimer Kurpaska, Stephen Kurpaska and Stanley w. Kurpaska; and by 2 sisters - Terry Viani and Frances Socha. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 21st, at 10:00 AM from the Auge`-Paciorek-Simmons Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, celebrated by Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, Pastor of the Parishes of St. Stanislaus Kostka and Notre Dame & St. Thomas Aquinas, Adams. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Monday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Care Campaign at North Adams Regional Hospital, directed to the Operating Room renovation in memory of Helen Mazzoli, through the funeral home.
