Mr. Ferdinand S. "Fred" Baczek, 82, of 38 Burt St. Adams, died early Saturday morning at the home of his daughter in Wakefield, MA, where he had been visiting. He was born in Adams on August 12, 1924, a son of the late Albert and Agnes (Najduszek) Baczek, and attended Adams schools, including St. Stanislaus Elementary School, and graduated from the former Adams High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the US Army in the European Theater, until his Honorable Discharge as a Staff Sergeant. Mr. Baczek worked in the ordnance division of General Electric Co. in Pittsfield for 35 years, until retiring in 1984. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams, where he served as an usher for 57 years, and was a member of the Parish Council and Picnic committee.He was a member of the General Electric Quarter Century and Pensioner's Clubs. His wife, the former Alice F. Cwalinski, whom he married on September 6, 1947, died on April 28, 2005. He is survived by 3 daughters - Barbara Stevens and her husband, Charles, of Destrehan, Louisiana; Joanne Smith of Adams, and Teresa Menard of Wakefield, MA; 1 Son - Steven Baczek and his wife, Holly, of Reading, MA; 2 Brothers - Stanley Baczek of Bennington, VT and Edward Baczek of Chino, California; 8 Grandchildren - Danielle and Joshua Menard; Alexandra, Nicole and Steven Baczek; and Sarah Stevens, Brandon Stevens and Melissa Hof; 4 Great Grandchildren - Skylar, Remy, Caitlin, and Madison and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Frank Baczek, and by 3 sisters, Isabelle Skubel, Anna Haskell and Stella Murphy. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 29th, at 12 Noon from the Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12:30 PM in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams, celebrated by Rev. Gary M. Dailey, Director of Vocations for the Diocese of Springfield. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 11:00 AM until 12 noon at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice of Northern Berkshire, or the Adams Ambulance Service through the funeral home.
