Emma Choquette

Mrs. Emma Margaret (Doss) Choquette, 90, of 12 Summer St. Adams, died early Saturday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital. She was born in Huntington, West Virginia on November 8, 1914, a daughter of the late Cline and Marie (Wilson) Doss. She graduated from Barboursville(WV) High School, and from Morris Harvey College in Huntington. She had also attended Columbia University in New York, where she met her husband, Oscar R. Choquette, whom she married on June 28, 1938. Mr. Choquette died November 9, 2000. Mrs. Choquette worked for a time as an English teacher in the Adams school system, but spent most of her life as a devoted wife and mother. She was the organist and choir director at the First Baptist Church of Adams for 25 years, until retiring several years ago. Earlier, she was the organist at the former United Methodist Church in Adams for many years. She also taught piano after school hours for many years, and helped many local young people foster a love of music. Mrs. Choquette also developed a talent for art, and displayed her works at local art shows with the Adams Art Association. She belonged to many local social organizations, including the former Adams Study Club. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking, reading, and especially enjoyed her family and friends. She is survived by 2 sons - Charles Choquette and his wife, Brenda, with whom she resided; and Laurence Choquette and his wife, Penny, of Cheshire; 1 sister - Ruth Hanley of Merritt Island, Florida; 1 brother - Robert Doss of Huntington, West Virginia; 5 Grandchildren - Brian, Scott and Jonathan Choquette and James and Paul Eckloff; 7 great grandchildren; Her beloved nephews - Joel and John Byrne of Canada; and several other nieces and nephews. Her daughter, Martha L. Eckloff, died January 23, 2005. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Louise Waldeck. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 10:00 AM in the First Baptist Church, Commercial St. Adams. Rev. Donald E. Gray, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours at the Auge`-Paciorek-Simmons Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, are Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Adams, through the funeral home.
