Mrs. Elizabeth Mary (Magnant) Yates, 79, of 188 Main St. Ashfield, a former longtime resident of Walling Rd. Adams, died early Tuesday morning at her home. She was born in Cheshire on July 18, 1925, a daughter of the late Albert and Minnie (Curtis) Magnant, she attended schools in Cheshire and Adams. She had lived for many years in East Hawley, and returned to Adams in 1973, where she lived until moving to Ashfield in 2004. Mrs. Yates worked for several years at the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Co. in Adams, and also volunteered for the American Red Cross. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Adams, where she was a member of its Women's Guild, Altar Guild, Chancel Choir and Prayer Chain. She was also a co-founder of A.M.E.N., which provided food and items to those in need. Her husband, Richard D. Yates, whom she married on July 4, 1947, died on December 30, 1993. She is survived by 1 Son - Richard Yates and his wife, Cheryl, of Hawley, MA; 3 Daughters - Nancy Cwalinski and Sally Yates, with whom she resided; and Elizabeth Celentano and her husband, Louis, of Adams; a daughter-in-law - Linda Yates of Cheshire; 1 Brother - Albert Magnant and his wife, Jean, of Ladson, South Carolina; 9 Grandsons, 1 Granddaughter, 1 Great Granddaughter; a Close friend - Wolfkeeper, of Ashfield; and several nieces & nephews. A son, Mark Yates, died on May 8, 1998. She was predeceased by a sister, Priscilla Magnant; and 2 brothers - Franklyn and Lester Magnant. A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated Saturday, May 28, at 10:00 AM in St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Adams. Rev. Jane Dunning will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours at the AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, will be Friday from 4 to 7 PM. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Franklin County or Boy Scout Troop 38 in Adams, through the funeral home.
