Edward Olszowy
Edward Stephen Olszowy, 78, of 4 Richmond St. Adams, a longtime Adams Police officer, died early Wednesday morning at home. He was born in Adams on April 6, 1927, a son of the late John and Catherine (Salamon) Olszowy. He attended Adams schools, and graduated from the former Adams High School in 1945, where he was a star athlete. He was named to the All Berkshire football and basketball teams, and had played basketball in the Boston Garden with the Western Mass. Championship Team. He served with the US Navy in the South Pacific and Guam during World War II. Following his military service, he attended both the University of Massachusetts and North Adams State College. Mr. Olszowy first worked briefly from the Springfield (MA) Armory, and the former Railway Express in North Adams as a foreman for 10 years. He was named a provisional patrolman to the Adams Police Department in 1960, and was named a permanent patrolman in 1962. He graduated from the Massachusetts Police Academy in 1967, and finally retired in 1985. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame & St. Thomas Aquinas, Adams. He was a member of Adams Post 160 American Legion and the Massachusetts Police Association. An avid golfer, he was a former member of Forest Park Country Club in Adams, where he served as Vice President for 2 years, and was on its Board of Directors for 10 years. He is survived by 1 daughter - Kristina Levesque of Pownal, Vermont; 1 Brother - John Olszowy and his wife, Victoria, of Boston, MA; His beloved grandchildren - Steven & Bradley Domenichini and Daniel Levesque; His longtime companion, Diane LaPort, with whom he resided; and several nieces & nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews. The funeral will be held on Saturday, May 21, at 11:00 AM from the AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12 Noon in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams, celebrated by Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, Pastor of the Parishes of Notre Dame & St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Stanislaus Kostka. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Christian Children's Fund through the funeral home.
