Alfred B. Burnett

September 7, 1920 - March 1, 2007

Mr. Alfred Benjamin Burnett, 86, of 234 Columbia St., Adams, died Thursday March 1, 2007, at the North Adams Regional Hospital. He was born in Adams on September 7, 1920, son of the late Benjamin and Bertha (Meacham) Burnett. He attended Adams schools, and graduated from the former Adams High School with the class of 1939. He then attended the former Bliss Business School, North Adams, and the American International College, Springfield, MA. Mr. Burnett was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the 475th Army Air Force until his honorable discharge as a Sergeant in 1946. Mr. Burnett worked as a paymaster for the former Berkshire Hathaway Co., Adams, and as a financial controller for Pfizer Co. in the Adams and Canaan, CT offices from 1959 until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the Adams First Baptist Church, where he served as chairman for the Advisory Board and the Business & Finance Committee. Mr. Burnett had also served as a deacon and church clerk. He was a former member of the Town of Adams Finance Committee. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid Boston Redsox fan. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, the former Dorothy M. Scriven, whom he married on January 2, 1943 at the O'Reilly General Hospital in Springfield, MO, while stationed there with the army. 1 Daughter - Shirley Strickland of Saratoga, NY. 2 Grandsons - Sam Pevey of North Adams, and Joseph Burnett of San Antonio, TX. 4 Great Granddaughters - Courtney, Brittany, McKenna, and MiKayla, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Ethel Satko and Lila Nimmons. The funeral will be held on Monday March 5, at 11:00AM from the PACIOREK Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a service at 12:00PM in the First Baptist Church, Adams, with Rev. Donald Gray, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Sunday from 2:00PM to 5:00PM at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church through the funeral home.
