William G. Shephard

William George Shephard, Sr., 61, of 8 Glen St. Adams, died Wednesday, January 11, 2006, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. He was born in Adams on November 10, 1944, a son of the late Emery and Phyllis (Rougeau) Shephard, and attended schools in Adams and North Adams, and graduated from Drury High School. Mr. Shephard first worked at the former Lev Hardware in North Adams, and then worked for H. Greenberg & Sons Hardware, Atlas Maintenance Corp., the Hardware Shop, Greylock Electric and finally Aldo's Paint and Wallpaper, until ill health forced his retirement in 1993. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame & St. Thomas Aquinas, Adams. He was a member of the Adams Turners, and had served with Company M, 2nd Battalion of the Massachusetts National Guard in Adams. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. He is survived by his wife, the former Louise A. Devio, whom he married on November 7, 1964, in Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur Church, North Adams; 1 Son - William G. Shephard, Jr. and his wife, Dawn, of Jacksonville, No. Carolina; 2 Daughters - Cynthia Shephard and her companion, Michael Ballard, of Altha, Florida; and Lisa Fortin and her husband, Leonard "Flip" Fortin of Readsboro, Vermont; 3 Brothers - Emery "Skip" Shephard and James Shephard, both of North Adams; and Edward Shephard of Daytona, Florida; 2 Sisters - Phyllis Hall of Daytona, Florida, and Frances Lehman of Fitchburg, MA; 7 Grandchildren - Rachel and Emily Shephard; Katelyn and Kelly Ballard and Walker, Rosemary and Lily Fortin; His stepmother - Jennie Shephard of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; Brothers and Sisters -in-laws - Norman and Beverly Devio, John Devio and Mary Malloy; 2 Aunts - Edith Goodermote of North Adams, and Joan Dubis of Adams; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews. The funeral will be held on Saturday, January 14, at 11:00AM from the AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12:00 Noon, in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Adams, celebrated by Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, Pastor of the Catholic Parishes of Adams.. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association through the funeral home.
