Verna L. Eastwood

Mrs. Verna Leona (Haggstrom) Eastwood, 91, of 35 Victory Terrace, Adams, died late Wednesday evening, February 1, 2012, at her home. She was born in Salem, MA on December 18, 1920, a daughter of the late Henry and Anna (Lindgrin) Haggstrom, and attended Salem schools. She had lived in Adams since 1941. Mrs. Eastwood last worked as a manager at Thrifty Bundle Launderette in Adams for several years. Earlier, she had worked at the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Co., Brightwater Paper Co., L.L. Brown Paper Co., Joanne Bakery and Signet Corp., all in Adams. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Adams, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, and on the Religious, Music and Flower Committees. She was a member of its Choir for 35 years, and also taught in its Bible School. She was a member and Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge, which she joined in 1946. Her husband, Charles M. Eastwood, whom she married on November 30, 1941, in Salem, MA, died on December 18, 1990. She is survived by a son, Robert Eastwood and his wife, Paula, of North Adams; 2 daughters, Ruth Zappula and her husband, David, of North Adams, and Pamela Eastwood of Adams; 3 Grandchildren, Scott Risch and his wife, Jennifer; Wendy Risch and Shonna Poette; a step grandson, James DiGennaro and his wife, Barbara; 7 Great Grandchildren, Stephanie Whitney, Beth Risch, Serena Eastwood, Juliet Poette, Angela DiGennaro, Dylan DiGennaro and Derek Dabrowski; Her dear friend, Jacqueline Nimmons, of Adams; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Warren Haggstrom, and by 2 sisters, Millicent Allie and Audrey Haggstrom. The funeral will be held on Monday, February 6th, at 11:00 AM in the PAC IOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams. Rev. Michael Mullany, Pastor of the First Congregational Church of Adams, will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Sunday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home.
