Richard J. Massey

Mr. Richard Joseph Massey, 73, of Main Rd. Savoy, died Saturday evening, December 4, 2010, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. He was born in Whitinsville, MA on September 19, 1937, a son of the late Ovila and Marie (Vincent) Massey. He moved to Savoy at the age of 3, attended Savoy schools, and graduated from the former Adams High School with the Class of 1956. Mr. Massey last worked as a machinist at General Electric in Pittsfield for 15 years, until retiring in 1995. Earlier, he had worked at the former Sprague Electric in North Adams and H.D. Reynolds General Merchandise in Cheshire. He had been a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams. He was a member of the Adams Lodge of Elks. He had also served with Company M of the Massachusetts National Guard in Adams. He enjoyed fishing, watching soccer games and watching his grandchildren's sporting events. He is survived by his wife, the former Theresa J. Haczela, whom he married on May 28, 1960; 2 sons, Richard Massey, Jr. of Savoy; and James Massey and his wife, Peggi, of Adams; 3 daughters, Linda Rancatti of Ellington, CT; Sandra LaFrance and her husband, James, of Savoy, and Susan Krutiak and her husband, Todd, of Savoy; 2 sisters, Jean Idarola and Norma Jacobs, both of Upton, MA; 1 brother, Donald Massey of Palmer, MA; His mother-in-law, Jennie Haczela of Savoy; 7 Grandchildren, Regina Rancatti, Samantha LaFrance, James LaFrance, Jr., Richard Massey III, Ashley Massey, Cameron Massey and Chelsea Krutiak; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews. He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Raymond, Roger and Gerald Massey; by a foster brother, James Reeves; and by a brother-in-law, Stephen Haczela. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 8th, at 9:30 AM from the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in the Parish Church of Pope John Paul the Great, Adams, celebrated by Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, Pastor. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association through the funeral home.
